A 16-year-old boy has been found guilty of the murder of his former girlfriend, who was found battered to death.
Rebecca Aylward, 15, from Maesteg, was discovered in woods in Aberkenfig, near Bridgend, in October 2010.
The boy, who cannot be named, denied the killing but was convicted by a 10-2 majority verdict after a four-week trial at Swansea Crown Court.
He said he joked about killing her as a bet for a free breakfast but did not mean it, and blamed his best friend.
Rebecca Aylward's family clapped and shouted "Yes" as the verdict was delivered after 19 hours and 55 minutes of deliberation, which began last Friday afternoon.
The defendant's mother was in tears, but he showed no emotion as the verdict was read out.
Head injuries
He is due to be sentenced later on Wednesday afternoon.
The jury was told the schoolgirl died of head injuries.
She was found still wearing new clothes bought for her the day before her death.
The jury previously heard that the defendant had admitted to "sometimes" hating Rebecca.
That is when his friend had turned to him a suggested he "get rid of her", the defendant told the court.
The friend then told the defendant he would buy him breakfast if he did, the court heard, and the defendant replied "You're on".
But the defendant denied that he was serious, saying: "No-one kills for a breakfast."
